A city escape without having to leave your doorstep

The Journey

The Journey of the

Floating Terrarium

“When I came up with the Floating Terrarium concept in 2022 and submitted it to Airbnb for their OMG Fund design competition; Out of 10’s of thousands of people I was given an opportunity of a life time. I never thought a year on I would be standing on my own floating flora auberge next to a monstera as big as I am! (Which is not too hard as I’m 5ft3).

It has been an utterly astounding experience designing, project managing and self-building this space and I couldn’t have realised my dream to this level of finesse without the support of my Dad who taught me how to use practically every Dewalt tool known to man. I also have to thank The Boat Fit Co, Pro Electrical and Marine Heating Limited for their incredible trade skills.

I also reached out to eco-conscious brands Lick Paint and Patch Plants so that I could not only help elevate the space but also inspire my guests to think greener when it comes to the way that we live and show that you can live in luxury without costing the planet.

I am so humbled and grateful for the friends and family who came on board to help me take this crazy idea to a whole different stratosphere of amazing.”

More About The Floating Terrarium

Now, the architecture. You’ll notice no other boat around has trapezium shaped windows. I wanted to emulate terrarium geometric essence can carry that through to the bow section as well.

We all love a skylight, but these aren’t just there for show—it’s a daytime sunbathing spot for the plants and a night-time stargazing party. Solar panels? Check. Bow and stern bursting with fast-growing greenery? Double-check. It’s like Mother Nature threw a VIP party, and you’re on the guest list.

From ideation, I was adamant that the plants needed to live harmoniously next to elegant design. With the support of Lick’s team I was able to select striking monochromes that accentuate the vibrancy of the plants.

Inside, think ‘living walls,’ tropical plants, and reclaimed wooden gym floors. It’s a botanical fiesta with a side of modern elegance. We’re not just floating; we’re floating in style.

So there you have it—The Floating Terrarium, where city hustle meets urban chic.
